Jeep

Wondering about the date? Yup. Four-wheelin' on Thanksgiving Day! What better way to fight the tryptophan than to go get some mud on your rig?

Since my Jeep was in the shop when we did our trail ride at Rock Front Ranch I didn't get a chance to really see if everything was working with my suspension. The Air Force base where we're stationed has some dirt bike trails hidden back in the trees, so I drove my rig back there to just make sure everything was working. Again, there's nothing extreme or difficult here. I just wanted to make sure everything was in order and check some performance. We spent less than 30 minutes off road... this was just a spur of the moment fun thing to do on Turkey Day.

Photos:

King of the hill Nothing more than a glamor shot. I know I don't drive the most extreme, incredible, hella-capable rig, but I can't do it all at once. Still, I love this Jeep, and I like taking the occasional vain picture.
Cresting a dirt mound Same spot, different angle.
Washboard The dirt bike trails had some good washboard jumps. I didn't jump them because I knew I'd destroy my Jeep. I wanted to check approach, breakover and departure angles.
Over the humps These washboards weren't too severe, so getting over them really wasn't a problem.
Center clearance 33" tires and 6.5" of lift making going over these humps super easy.
Burried Jeep There's one really big hump to climb up on this track. It's about 3.5' to 4' deep. I took this shot and ground level, and you can see that my grill is barely visible.
Climbing out Approach angle is great. I had no problems getting my front tires up onto this hump.
Great clearance Breakover clearance was close, but the big tires and long arms cleared it without touching. The rear driveshaft never even came close to the ground. If the backside of this hump was as steep as the front, I would have had some high-center problems. That's the price you pay for having a long wheel base, I suppose.
Dirty and happy Short trip. Just for giggles. We went home with some dirt in the flares and a grin on our faces. Then we took a nice nap!
